How was I able to get such a quantity of infusions?
I had a port installed.
Ports, or PowerPorts as they are sometimes called, are devices which are surgically installed to make infusions such as mine go faster and smoother. It enables fluids to be pushed at a higher rate without relying on finding a vein and gives easy access for blood draws.
When I was getting infusions five days a week, the port could stay accessed for those five days and then the meds could just be connected quickly and easily.
My port became dysfunctional in one direction (I stopped getting blood return). Because the potential for infection was too great, I need to get it surgically removed.
